In Peace, Alison Kiawenniserathe Benedict

Alison Benedict, MSW
is the owner of Peaceful Living. She is a member of the Mohawk Nation of Akwesasne, Wolf Clan. Her Mohawk name is Kiawenniserathe, meaning Bright Day. The roots and inspiration of her life work come from the teachings of the Peacemaker.

She received her Masters degree from the University of Michigan in 1998. At Michigan, she was chosen as a Civitas Scholar, which provided specialized training in child abuse and neglect. Since that time, she has taught Social Work and Counselling courses at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, University of Windsor, and Brandon University. Her academic work also included, program development, program evaluation, field placements and supervision. The focus of teaching has been work in First Nations/Aboriginal communities and creating culturally specific curriculum. She has also worked as a school social worker and in front line social work. Her specialization is working with people who have experienced trauma, either as survivors or as witnesses.

Darlene Kawennano:ron Johnson, MSW is a member of the Mohawk Nation of Kahnawake, Turtle Clan. She is a therapist, producer, facilitator, educator, motivator and leadership trainer of all ages. She has worked in the areas of counseling, prevention, education, program development, journalism, production and media for over 25 years. During the last 25 years, Ms. Johnson has focused primarily on the creation and
development of unique training and educational programs for both the non-Native and Native North American Indian communities; businesses/organizations (corporate, private, and non-profit); law enforcement and public safety organizations; educational institutions; state, federal and tribal governments/institutions; entertainment industry; special events; and conferences, symposiums, seminars and workshops.

Chrysetta Patterson, MSW is an independent consultant, trainer and manager specializing in youth at risk ages 14-21 and their families. As a consultant for the New York State Adolescent Services Resource Network at Hunter College School of Social Work and COFCCA, she has trained in curriculum designed to enhance professional development.

Ms. Patterson, was a collaborator with the Administration of Children Services, (IOC) Improved Outcomes for Children initiative. She has been cited as an expert in the field of child welfare while working in collaboration with the Youth Justice Board’s publication “Stand Up, Stand Out 2007. She is a Certified Big brothers Big Sisters Mentor supervisor who has developed and designed mentoring programs for contract agencies.

Her extensive experience spans both child Welfare and (OMH) the Office of Mental Health, where she was a Program Director for several years. She has been working in the field of human services for over 20 years. Her background in computer training has lead to her involvement in the design, development and operation of a number of specialty programs, curriculums and services.
