I recently had an extension put on my home; this has given me an extra toilet, 2 bedrooms, increased the size of my kitchen and provided me with a decent sized family room. I have 3 small children and needed a space where we could come together as a family, not have to worry too much about the decoration or the furniture but have a large comfortable room where we could spend time together as a family.
In my family room I have very little furniture; I have a large television and sound system and a large corner suite. The very large sofa, well 2 sofas together is the main focal point in the room; it is large enough to comfortably sit 2 adults and 3 wriggling children. I bought a sofa with loose covers that I can remove and put in the washing machine, I didn’t want to have to constantly tell the children off for spilling things or getting paint on the sofa. In the evening when I am going to bed if I need to wash the covers I put them in the washing machine, hang them up to dry in the morning and put them on again in the evening when we come home, no complicated cleaning or ironing.
We sit on the sofa, well usually we lie on it and watch television but we can also play games and colour in, and sometimes we even eat our dinners off our laps. In the winter evenings we draw down the blinds and just spend time together. The children play on the floor or with their toys or sometimes they sit on our laps and we read stories or even just sit and talk about the day at school, what we would like for Christmas or sometimes we even just snooze. The Children make castles and dens using blankets and the cushions off the sofa, they even pile up the cushions and make slides or jump on the cushions from the sofa.
My sofa is large and it is the dominant piece of furniture in the room but it was chosen specifically for this purpose. I want to spend happy times with my children in comfort and safety and I decided I would invest in a good quality comfortable sofa, my sofa is not bespoke but it is very practical and provides us with everything we need, seating, play den, all the children have spent many happy hours snoozing on it as babies they have even spend hours on it wrapped in blankets when they have been unwell. Sometimes, but not very often, when we get the children to bed, my husband and I can curl up together and enjoy some time together as a couple.
